Karnal Sarpanch's Pond Revival Becomes Model for Water Conservation

A dried village pond now recharges 40 borewells, inspiring 60 nearby villages to replicate the effort.

Karnal: When 31-year-old sarpanch Meenakshi Rani took charge, the village pond was a dumping ground. Three years later, it stores 55 lakh litres and feeds groundwater that revived 40 dry borewells.

The project combined MGNREGA funds, community shramdaan and a desilting technique learned from Rajasthan experts.

The district administration has declared the village a "water learning centre", hosting study tours every Saturday for panchayat representatives across the state.
